Boo? Fuck You!

chase utley-philadelphia philliesAs promised, here is the first post from new contributor Frank Wheeler.

Watching Chase Utley try to bunt for a base hit against the Rockies in Game 2 of the 2009 NLDS reminded me of the type of player this guy is. He’s a fighter. A man’s man. A man who will do absolutely anything to win. Utley can destroy opposing teams with the homer, the two-bagger, or a bunt – doesn’t matter. He’s of the same mold of the type of guys who used to play in the Golden Age, when men would play through a broken finger and indeed, a hangover (e.g. Lou Gehrig and Mickey Mantle, respectively).

Coincidentally, it also reminded me of the 2008 All-Star game in New York when Utley was caught on camera saying “Fuck You!” in response to arrogant fans who booed him when he was introduced.

Now, the average fan and parent was probably a little taken aback by Chase’s reaction. After all he is a professional athlete who should be completely immune to offensive and obnoxious behavior. We’ve become a society of ridiculous expectations – all the famous need be examples of nobility, all the while absorbing our despicable actions and judgments. Well, I say this to all those righteous right-wing nuts who think Utley should watch his mouth on camera – FUCK YOU, SIRS!!! I personally loved his reaction. Similar to how I love it when Eminem obliterates his critics with his music. I wish more athletes let the fans have it. And let’s get one thing straight – athletes are not over-privileged celebrities – they’re ATHLETES. They actually work for a living (most of them anyway—I’m looking at you Pavano).

Inundated with all sorts of outlets, be it a Twitter update, YouTube video, Facebook status – all of us who are definitely NOT a man’s man feel empowered enough to voice our insignificant opinion on all sorts of sports topics. Why can’t we all just shut the hell up! Kick back and enjoy a beer. You don’t have to cheer Chase Utley if you’re a fan of a different NL East team, but for crying out loud, keep quiet. He’s a better player, in better shape, and bangs more women than you. So just keep your mouth shut.

BTW – to all of the fake news networks that make up stories making fun of professional athletes (Onion, SportsPickle, ESPN’s Page2), cut it out. As much as I love you, something tells me I’d laugh a lot harder at the lives of the authors’ rather than the athlete they make fun of. I’ve seen so many jokes on Tony Romo (whom, as a Giants fan, I hate), but in all honesty, he’s banged so many hot women and makes so much money it’s unreal. So who’s really laughing? The finger should be pointed at all of us.

So essentially, if you don’t like this posting, well then…FUCK YOU!

I heart Chase Utley! no one should be booing him! especially after his performance last night in the 4th game of the NLDS. And the people that do are jealous that he’s not hitting HR’s for their team.

I like the site and your article and you have every right to like Chase Utley’s reactions to the taunts and abuse, but you in turn shouldnt be abusing people who were offended by his (re)actions. Professional athletes are paid large amounts of money to represent: 1. Themselves 2. Their teammates and coaching staff 3. Their Club. Therefore he shouldnt be cursing and abusing people who are contributing to his salary by attending ballgames. I love Chase Utley and he has every right to show anger and disgust when he’s not in the limelight but in his uniform on the field he should have more sense and self discipline than that.
