ESPN Radio Breaks Down the Super Bowl

ESPN Studios. Super Bowl Week…

Mike Greenberg: We are back on ESPN radio, with our continuing coverage of Super Bowl XLIV. We are in day 9, hour 3 of our non-stop Super Bowl analysis. We still have SO MUCH to talk about.

Mike Golic: POT ROAST!

Greenberg: Anyway, we have a special guest for you on our Subway Fresh Take, OnStar, Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, Quiznos, Metro PCS Hotline. It’s none other than ESPN Analyst and Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth! Welcome to the show Stink!

Schelreth: Oh it’s great to be here guys. We have a GREAT Super Bowl matchup. The National Football League got the match-up they wanted. Two great football teams, with lots of phenomenal football players. Should be an exciting football contest.

Greenberg: Ok Stink. We are gonna give you the Coors Light, Budweiser, Miller Lite, Killians, Heineken, Peroni, Corona Extra, Dos Equis, El Presidente, PBR, Natty Ice, Hot Seat, Freeze Frame, Six Pack of questions. You ready Stink?

Schlereth: OH I’m ready. I had 20 surgeries on my knees and won three super bowls. I can definitely handle six questions from some nerdy pretty-boy like you.

Greeny: hahaha! You’re right Stink! I’m a big girly-man and my partner Golic is fat! HAHAHA

Golic: TOBASCO SAUCE!

Greenberg: First question. We have two great quarterbacks in this game. Which team has the edge at QB?

Schlereth: When you talk about the QUARTERBACK position in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, you think about PEYTON MANNING. Here’s a guy that can flat out play the game of FOOTBALL. When NUMBER 18 straps on his helmet you know your football team has a great chance to win a football game.

On the other side, you got DREW BREES. This guy can flat out throw the football. The Saints have A LOT of weapons on the offensive side of the football with Marques Colston at the WIDE RECEIVER POSITION and Reggie Bush at the RUNNING BACK POSITION. Look for Brees to throw the football to these playmakers, who will make BIG plays.

Greenberg: So it sounded like you picked Manning there. Peyton is phenomenal. He carved up my Jets last week. I sat and cried like a little girl all night last after my Jets lost in the AFC Championship game!

Maybe we should give Peyton a song?

(Takes 20 minutes going through 30 different songs, then picks song for Manning)

Greenberg: Second question. Dwight Freeney is questionable in this game with a high ankle sprain. Do you think he’ll play?

Schlereth: This ain’t a league for pansies like yourself Greenberg. I played in Super Bowl XXXII two days after reconstructive knee surgery. I was so banged up after the game, I had to get 15 MORE surgeries and wear a diaper for three months but I got a Super Bowl Ring. Did I mention I had 87 knee surgeries?

Greenberg: So he’ll play then?

Golic: I PLAYED WITH REGGIE WHITE!

Scherelth: When you’re talking about DWIGHT FREENEY, you’re talking about a THROWBACK player. Here’s a guy who’s not afraid to hit someone in the mouth and get after the quarterback. When you line up across from DWIGHT FREENEY you know it’s going to be a long day. He’s a TEAM PLAYER who’s not afraid to physical at the point of attack and play with pain for the 55 other guys in that locker room.

Greenberg: Forget it. I’ll just check Adam Schefter’s twitter status to find out…So what do you think are the keys to this game for both sides?

Schlereth: I look at the NEW ORLEANS SAINTS and I think they’re one of the MOST complete teams. They have one of the best players in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE in Drew Brees. They have EXPLOSIVE playmakers in Reggie Bush and Marques Colston. When you’re talking about a playmaker like NUMBER 25, you’re talking about a guy who can flat-out make FOOTBALL plays. You look at this offense and you’re talking about a complete offense. They can throw it, they can use the play-action, they can go over the top. This team can DO IT ALL.

On the other side, you look at INDIANAPOLIS COLTS. They are one of the MOST complete teams in the National Football League. They have one of the best players in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE in Peyton Manning. They have EXPLOSIVE playmakers in Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark. When you’re talking about a playmaker like NUMBER 44 you’re talking about a guy who can flat-out make FOOTBALL plays. You look at this offense and you’re talking about a complete offense. They can throw it, they can use the play-action, they can go over the top. This team can DO IT ALL.

Greenberg: You just said the same exact thing for both teams. Let’s just skip the other two questions and go to my final question. Who ya got? Which team comes out on top in Super Bowl XLIV?

Schlereth: In the end, the team that controls the line of scrimmage and protects the quarterback WILL WIN this football game. The winning team will be PHYSICAL at the point of attack. The football team that can establish the run and set up the play-action fake will come out on top in this football game. Look for the football team that eliminates turnovers and penalties, wins FIRST DOWN and plays PHYSICAL football to WIN Super Bowl XLIV.

Greenberg: Soooo Colts or Saints? You know what. Forget it. We have 34 “experts” still to come who will give me their pick. When we come back, we’ll briefly touch on college basketball and baseball hot stove for about thirty seconds before continuing our Super Bowl XLIV coverage from Miami.

This is Mike and Mike in the Morning…

Golic: …ON ESPN RADIO!

P.S. Watch this video. This is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.
