Fantasy Baseball Murphy’s Law

A better kind of fantasy baseball

I’ve been playing fantasy baseball for many years now. Baseball is my favorite sport and I follow it more closely than any other sport, yet I have yet to win a fantasy baseball title—EVER. It’s beyond frustrating. It seems like no matter how hard I prepare for a draft, or how closely I monitor free agents during the season, something always goes wrong. This season is already shaping up to be another shitty one.  When it comes to fantasy baseball, I subscribe to Murphy’s Law—the belief that anything that can go wrong, WILL go wrong.

Here is my “Fantasy Baseball Murphy’s Law” list

The perennial all-star you draft in the first round will have the worst year of his career the year you draft him

The following year, when you pass him over, he will dominate the league

The ace pitcher you draft will announce he is having Tommy John surgery two days after your draft ended

Your best closer will lose the job one month into the season

The guy in your league with five closers will pick up his replacement minutes before you do (more…)

The Most Hated Men in Fantasy Football: 2011 Edition

Fantasy Football Busts 2011Every year, in the world of fantasy football, there are a few guys that just don’t live up to expectations. No matter how good your team is, you’ll always have one guy on your team that you hate. Every so often, there will be a guy SO BAD that you swear you’ll never draft him ever again. NO MATTER WHAT. You hate him for destroying your dream of fantasy football glory and you’ll never forgive him.

The 2011 season is no different. Below you will find a list of players who are currently the most hated men in fantasy football.

I prepared a similar list in 2009, but many of those players have become largely irrelevant. Predictably their shitty play in the fantasy world correlated with their shitty play in real life and now most of them are out of football. Before I get to the current list, let’s recap where the players from my 2009 list stand now. (more…)

Fantasy Football Thoughts for the 2011 Season

Dez Bryant PicI typically do some sort of fantasy football post around this time each year.  This year I struggled with a way to present a fantasy football post in a different manner than in years’ past.  I suppose I could have done some sort of predictions or strategy guide but I waited too long to do that and no one is coming to this site for fantasy football advice anyway.

Instead, I have a somewhat random collection of thoughts about the upcoming season and fantasy football in general.  They are a little all over the place but hopefully you’ll find this post both informative and entertaining.  (more…)

You Should be Taking My Gambling/ Fantasy Football Advice

Before the season started, I gave you amazing fantasy football advice, telling you to pass over the top QBs and take Philip Rivers instead. I later predicted Arian Foster to be a breakout fantasy football player. Rivers and Foster are two of the top-ranked players in fantasy football this season.

Then, I subtlety started an NFL Pick of the Week, where I selected one team which I thought had the best chance to cover the spread and win you some money. Amazingly, after 12 weeks I am 9-3! I can’t believe it myself. When it comes to NFL betting, you should be taking my advice. Don’t waste your time reading scouting reports and analyzing stats. Just come right here, read a few funny posts and get a winning pick.  The pick is on the top right sidebar.

Sadly, I have not won a dime off my amazing run since I haven’t actually bet on any of these games myself.  I’m afraid if I start I’ll go on a losing streak.

This week, I like the Rams -3 over the Cardinals.  (more…)

LWB’s Keys to Fantasy Football Greatness

August can be a depressing month for a lot of people.  The summer is winding down, which means the warmer weather will leave us soon and many of us will be heading back to work or school shortly.  But if there’s one thing to get excited about in August—at least from a man’s point of view—it’s your fantasy football draft.

Sadly, throughout the years, there are few things that I anticipate more than my fantasy football draft.  Every year I prepare more for my draft than I probably did for my GMAT, SAT and every final I ever took in college.  I leave no stone unturned.  I read up on ESPN.com during my lunch break and comb through fantasy football magazines when I sit on the toilet.  My hard work has paid off as I have become the most decorated manager in my league, winning three times in seven years…and yes, my Mother is very proud.

Now today, I give you my keys to my success…. (more…)

The First Ever LWB Podcast

So I was drunk over at Don Valdez’s house this Saturday and we got bored and decided to do a podcast. It’s 30 minutes of complete nonsense. You should listen to it anyway. Among the topics discussed are 24, LOST and fantasy baseball.

NFL Team or Fantasy Football Team?: The Great Debate

mjdLester’s Legends, a fantasy sports blog, is running a survey to determine if people are more passionate about their favorite football team or their fantasy sports team.

Lester’s Legend’s says:
At one time or another, I bet everyone has wondered whether we should root for a fantasy player who is going up against our “real” NFL team.  I think it all boils down to a simple question:  does it feel better when my fantasy football team wins, or when my favorite NFL team wins?

This conundrum comes up on an almost weekly basis and its something many fantasy football fans wrestle with.  There is no better example of this dilemma for me than this Thursday night’s game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Indianapolis Colts. (more…)

How to Stay Interested in Fantasy Baseball When your Team Stinks

We are getting deep into August now and in Fantasy Baseball world, the good teams have already separated themselves from the bad teams.  If you’re like me and your squad is riddled with injured players and underachieving stars you have probably already lost interest a long time ago.  However, here are a number of ways you can maintain your interest in fantasy baseball throughout the remainder of the season.  (more…)
