The Real Sign that Summer is Over…
Summer is officially over. It’s a little depressing. There are signs all around reminding me that the summer has come and gone. Labor Day has passed, school is in back in session and the weather is getting cooler. However, I a saw a very telling sign that summer was over when walking through my local beer distributor this past weekend.
One of my favorite beers, Samuel Adams Summer Ale is off the shelves. In its place: Octoberfest. While Octoberfest its still a fine beer, it doesn’t not stand up to Summer Ale. Whenever I see Octoberfest, I know the days of summer are numbered. It was quite a downer.

Summer Ale is better, but you can’t give it an awesome nickname, such as Rocktoberfest.
I actually prefer the Sam Octoberfest over the summer Ale. I know I may be in the minority on that but its one of my favorite beers. This is not to say that I dont enjoy the summer ale because I certainly do. I am however sad to see that summer is gone but this change from summer to fall does bring some great things with it. Such as College and NFL football. Oh and lets not forget October baseball. Which even though my team is finished should be pretty exciting to watch. Then of course theres Halloween, Thanksgiving which means Turkey sandwiches and pumpkin pies so its not all bad.
time runs so swiftly…and yeah, few more days before the much awaited “Octoberfest”. but seriously, i dont really enjoy the festivity that much. my body has set a limit of up to 3 beers for my tummy. after that, i pass out.
but nevertheless, it’s the fun that i’m more after for.
Dude, nice little blog you got going on here. Personally I”m an Octoberfest man myself, but summer is a very very close second for Sam seasonals.
I guess I’m going to have to start liking beer if I want to join in the ‘manly’ discussions around these parts…
I can’t really drink it, since a bad experience when I was 16…
You guys know that Oktoberfest is a huge beer-drinking festival in Germany, right? A big, stein-swinging-and-clashing beer guzzle-fest?
It’s SOOOO huge. Like, hundreds of thousands of people in acre upon acre of marquees set up just for the beer-drinking extravaganza. Amazing.
Oh I am aware of the huge celebrations that go on in Germany. There are many Oktoberfest celebrations that go on right here in the U.S. as well. Lots of festivals and German Restaurants have celebrations with German music groups and dancing. Lots of great food and beers at these events. I plan on attending a few this year myself. Nothing is as big as what goes on in Germany but these are great festivals.
